Bird ID
Bird Identification and Sighting Recording

Bird ID™ by TapPoint® is birding software that acts like an expert companion to your favorite North American bird field guide book, providing both species identification by location, color, group and/or length, and a sightings recording database.  Using a unique map-based species range database, Bird ID generates an automatic custom checklist of species expected at your exact geographical location.  Unlike other checklist systems that generate a checklist at the state level, Bird ID's checklist will be smaller and more accurate, and therefore easier to work with.  For example, the checklist for an inland location in California is quite different from a coastal location, as is a southern location vs. a northern location, mountain vs. valley, etc.

Use Bird ID before you start flipping pages in your field guide to save a significant amount of time identifying new species.  Using a field guide alone, you typically guess on the bird's taxonomy group to find out where to start, then start flipping through pages looking at colors, then finally eliminate species after species via their range maps.  Bird ID turns this process around and automates most of it, by first filtering all species based on their expected range, then allowing you to search by what you saw, such as colors or length, then referring you to the pages in your field guide for only those species that are close matches to your observations.

After identification, you can easily record your sightings in the Windows and/or Palm OS versions, where Bird ID will track your sightings by location, species and date, and track your progress against your custom checklists, as well as your "Life List" of all sightings.
