The Basic Scoring Spreadsheet
calculates the score of a run as controls in the highlighted column are filled
in. Requires Microsoft Excel 97 or later.
Suggested uses:
- Have the team members use it electronically to compute their scores.
- Print or Save-As selected runs as desired.
- Close without saving to keep the original sheet blank, or save-over each
run to help highlight differences between runs when filling out.
- Print it out and use it as a pencil and paper worksheet to record
completed items from a run, then calculate the score later using the
electronic version. This is also very useful for refs at scrimmages
and tournaments.
The Enhanced Scoring Spreadsheet
adds a button to clear the scores between runs, and a separate sheet where the
team can automatically keep a running log of their scores from run to run.
This is useful for a team that wants to keep a running record during practices. This version requires Microsoft Excel 97 or later with macros enabled.
Later versions of Excel disable macros by default for security reasons. To
enable macros,
- In Excel 2003, set the macro security level to Medium or Low in Tools ->
Macro -> Security, Security Level
- In Excel 2007, press the button in the notification bar to enable the
macros each time you open the spreadsheet, or add the spreadsheet's location
on your hard disk to the list of Trusted Locations in Office Button -> Excel
Options -> Trust Center -> Trust Center Settings -> Trusted Locations.
Finally, the Tournament Scoring
Spreadsheet adds a multi-team results sheet where the total scores from each
run for all teams are recorded. Suggested use is as follows:
- (Optional) Pre-enter the team numbers and team names for the teams at
your tournament on the Team Log sheet. If you don't, you will be
prompted to add each one after its first run.
- The ref uses a printed copy of the Score Sheet to go over the results
with the kids at the table and check off completed items. The ref also
enters the team number on the sheet. The ref may also optionally enter
the team name and run # on the sheet as a reference to the scorekeeper, but
this is not necessary if the team number is known.
- The ref hands the printed copy to a scorekeeper with the computer.
- At the computer, the scorekeeper presses the "Clear" button on the Score
Sheet, enters the team number and the run data, then switches to the Score
Log sheet and presses "Copy From Score Sheet". The run will be logged
on both the Score Log and Team Log sheets.
- The scorekeeper's computer may have a projector hooked up so that the
team and audience can see the score being tabulated and the results sheet.
- If desired, the scorekeeper can now enter the score numbers from the
electronic Score Sheet onto the printed version and give the printed sheet
to the team for their records.
- Any errors in the electronic Score Log or Team Log sheets can be fixed
manually in the sheets. These parts of the spreadsheet have no
formulas and are not locked so they can be edited manually as necessary.
